Planes, and other trees
You’d think the only tree that grows in Carcassonne is the plane tree.
I have lived in London and learned that their resistance to urban pollution makes plane trees ideal for that city. But surely here, in some of the richest agricultural countryside in Europe, we can find a greater variety of trees for our squares and avenues, can’t we? Ah, but I see that it is a matter of tradition. Anyway, plane trees are interesting even bare, with trunks looking as if they suffer from leucoderma and pollarded branches racing madly off in all directions.
