Bars and Cafés
I nearly always get a coffee while I’m out, usually un allongé (a long expresso, like an americano). Rarely do I get anything to eat, unless it’s time for lunch or dinner, but Monsieur Arpin’s briocherie on the square sometimes tempts me with its pastries. So, in the morning I might get a chocolatine (that’s what they call a pain au chocolat in this part of France), or, in the afternoon, a beignet (doughnut) packed with fresh cream.
Meery Cakes is a tea shop near the Place Carnot. It offers a mouthwatering array of pastries, always served in large portions, to go with its wide selection of teas and coffees.
At the bottom of the Rue de Verdun, Jean-Michel runs a tiny coffee shop and bakery (La Mie de Pain) next to the best greengrocer in the Bastide.
